Main Street Arts Transforms Apollo Gel into a Work of Art

Main Street Arts is a community arts center specializing in performance arts under the leadership of Artistic Director David Stern.

Main Street Arts used Apollo Gel to create the enormous 40’ x 20’ backdrop pictured above. Opera net provided the structure for the piece, with fabric dipped in flex-glue for the leading. The gel was hot-melt-glued to the leading on the upstage side and rear-lit off a cyc fixture to mimic the sun.

The extraordinary Apollo Gel background first appeared in a magical reveal moment in their production of The Secret Garden when the garden comes alive in the spring. David hopes to use it in future productions, as well.

In recent years they have performed innovative and sometimes original plays and musicals for thousands of people in Vermont at their Saxtons River theater, and at the Bellows Falls Opera House, a 550-seat auditorium, where Chicago recently played to sold-out crowds.

In addition to dramatic arts, the community center hosts art shows, a variety of classes, and concerts.Main Street Arts also facilitates the annual Great River Theater Festival.

We love seeing the creativity Main Street Arts employs in this piece.
